We do our shopping online, usually at Tesco. And while perusing the other day, I noticed that they did a frozen gluten free shortcrust pastry as part of their Dietary Specials range, so I thought I’d give it a go. I decided to make a tart out of it and I was very pleased with both the pasty and the tart as a whole.
The pastry held up very well and tasted great. I wouldnt recommend rolling it out and trying to lift it – it just falls apart. Much better to roll it out in small bits and push it together in the dish. It still works out famously though.
I didn’t need to blind bake either – just added a filling of a few fried chopped rashers of bacon, 3 sliced fried leeks, 1 tub of cream, half a small block of grated cheddar, 1 tsp of wholegrain mustard and 1 egg, and baked at 200C for about 35 mins. And I got this deliciousness:
I’ll be using that pastry again!
