You may have noted that I’ve not posted for a while – this is because I have been at the Glastonbury Festival for the past week. And what a time it was! I saw some amazing bands, and surprisingly, ate some amazing food!
I’d been told that Glastonbury had a wide range of delicious food and it wasn’t just the usual festival fayre of burgers and chips, but I was pleasantly surprised by the choice on offer. You can find practically any cuisine and all of it was relatively inexpensive and served in large portions. Vegetarians were especially well catered for (I’ve never seen the word ‘falafel’ so often in my life’, but by the very nature of the festival, that was to be expected. Here’s a few examples of the tasties on offer:

1. Katsu curry (of course!) They only served vegetarian meals at this particular japanese stall, but that was no problem. The curry was delicious and packed full of carrot, onion and potato.
2. Penne Bolognaise. Such was the range at the festival, we actually found an italian stall that sold gluten free pasta – take note restaurants, if a festival stall can do it, so can you!
3. This meal doesn’t look as appetizing, granted, but it was actually very tasty. Thai green chicken curry, rice, noodles and spring rolls with chilli sauce. A bit of a random mix of thai and chinese, but went down a trea
4. Sushi at a festival Yup, we couldn’t believe it either. More so, when we discovered that they’d actually made a makeshift restaurant with table service and comfy cushions to sit on – a complete haven from five days of mud and nothing to sit on but camping stools!
And the food was just as good as the surroundings. I had teriyaki salmon with sticky rice, which was perfectly cooked. Best thing I ate at the festival, by far!
Kieran had a sushi plate, which was also outstanding – tuna, mackerel, prawn, salmon and veggie sushi.
5. On the last day we tried some new things. For lunch, we found a caribbean stall and tried some curry goat and jerk chicken with rice and peas. It looked a lot better before I took the picture, but we’d already eaten some before I remembered to photograph! I’d had curry goat before, but it was Kieran’s first – goat has the same texture as beef, but tastes more like venison. Delish!
6. Later on that day we thought we’d try the ‘healthiest meat in the world’ – ostrich! Yes, Glastonbury was selling ostrich burgers. It reminded me of pork, to be honest – like sausage. I was expecting it to be like a chicken burger, but it was completely different. Very tasty!
So that was my food story from Glastonbury…can’t wait to do it all again n 2013!
