Pork tamales

Occasionally I like to cook something that’s completely out of my comfort zone. My knowledge of Mexican food is pretty non existent, although I know I love to eat it. I’ve also never had a tamale before, so you may wonder why I picked these as my first attempt at authentic Mexican cuisine.

I wondered the same thing when I was half way through making them and didn’t have a clue if I was doing the right thing.

Actually, these were delicious and extremely moreish. Like most things, these aren’t as hard as they seem if you have the correct ingredients, give yourself enough time and follow the instructions to the letter.

I got all my supplies from sous-chef.co.uk, which is a great place to find things that aren’t stocked in your local Tesco.

The recipe for the tamale dough and pork carnitas filling is from Gimme Some Oven.
