Chocolate peanut butter Krispie squares

Yet another reason to eat peanut butter; these delicious sweet and salty crispy squares are a great twist on the classic. The trick here is to use a peanut butter that isn’t too sweet and a little sea salt sprinkled on top of the chocolate is a delicious addition.

Makes 16 – Recipe from Baking Mad

230g Rice krispies
400g Large marshmallows (white)
70g Melted butter
140g peanut butter
200g Chocolate (milk or dark)

Prepare a square baking tin by lining it with greaseproof paper.

Measure the Rice Krispie out into a large bowl and keep to one side.

In a heatproof bowl melt the butter and pour in with the Rice Krispies.

If using large marshmallows chop in half using scissors or tear with your hands and place in a microwavable bowl with 2-3 tbsp of water and microwave for 2 minutes, in 30 seconds bursts, stir between each one. Alternatively, you could melt in a saucepan on a medium heat over a hob.

Pour the melted marshmallow into the Rice Krispies bowl, using a spatula to clear any excess off the sides. Mix all the ingredients together until fully combined.

Pour the mixture into the lined square baking tin and use the spatula to smooth down the top. Place in the fridge to chill for 30-40 minutes to set.

Once they have set, spread a layer of peanut butter on the top and leave to one side.

Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl and pour over the top of the peanut butter and leave to cool before moving to the fridge to set.
